COBCOE welcomes Brexit breakthrough

Theresa May and Jean-Claude Juncker Brexit deal 8 December 2017An announcement has been made this morning by Jean-Claude Juncker, European Commission President, and Theresa May, UK Prime Minister, signalling a major development in Brexit negotiations.

David Thomas MBE, Executive Chairman of COBCOE, said: "COBCOE and I personally welcome the agreement to move forward to negotiations on the future relationship between the UK and EU in the hope that the two sides can agreee overarching principles quickly alongside the details of any implementation process. COBCOE continues to research the needs of all European business in these areas and will continue to support both sides of the negotiations to achieve what is good for Europe as a whole"

COBCOE's first research report into UK-EU business relationships, Brexit – the Voices of European Business, is available here.

Before talks on the future relationship between the UK and EU could start, there had to be sufficient progress on what Mr Juncker described as the "three terms of the divorce" – the financial settlement, the status of EU citizens and the Irish border.
