COBCOE responds to Theresa May's speech on Brexit
Tuesday 17th January 2017
We welcome the Prime Minister’s vision for a new and equal partnership with Europe as the Government prepares for Britain’s exit from the EU. We now have greater clarity around key objectives.
The thrust of the strategy outlined today is to establish a closer economic relationship with the EU, rather than a political one. We believe that as the only British business organisation represented across Europe, we can play a key role in achieving the Prime Minister’s negotiation goals.
Mrs May’s vision is for a ‘trading nation’. In physical goods, however, the UK has a large trading deficit. We therefore hope that this new vision for ‘Global Britain’ will provide a new impetus to realign the British economy towards manufacturing and increased exports to the world.
COBCOE represents around 40 independent chambers of commerce and business assocations across the continent and beyond with a combined membership of some 8,000 businesses.
In a futuristic move, COBCOE is currently connecting its member chambers and global affiliate chambers of commerce via a revolutionary new online platform, COBCOE Connects, enabling members to find trusted new business contacts in new markets.
By responding to the needs of businesses and the possibilities of digital transformation, COBCOE Connects is a practical new way to bring about the 'Global Britain' envisioned by Mrs May.
