How will disruptive technologies change the way we do business?

What major changes are taking place and which disruptive technologies are really helping business people?

These questions were discussed by a group of leading British tech entrepreneurs at our conference held today at ICAEW headquarters in London.

Opening the conference, London Deputy Mayor for Business, Rajesh Agrawal, said: “London is the innovation capital of Europe and a hotbed for disruptive technologies which are changing the way people do business around the world. As someone who has started and grown a disruptive fintech business, I have seen first-hand both the challenges and the opportunities embracing technology can bring. Events like this are a fantastic opportunity for business leaders to come together, share ideas and develop new forms of technology that will power our economy over the coming years.”

Anne-Marie Martin, Chief Executive of COBCOE, said: “This is a pivotal time for British-European business. We need to be aware of the disruptive technologies that will help us overcome any hurdles and take up any opportunities that Brexit may present.”

New solutions to accessing finance, changing currencies and moving money were considered in detail by the first panel on Fintech moderated by Patrick Imbach, Head of KPMG Technology Growth. Panellists were: Rachel Kent, Global Head of Financial Institutions Group at Hogan Lovells; Katrin Herrling, CEO & Co-Founder of Funding Xchange; and Helen Mitchell, a fintech specialist at the Department for International Trade and Co-Founder and Director of Blukudu Ltd.

Practical advice on finding easier ways to take a business into global markets came in the second panel, moderated by Kevin Smith, KPMG London Region Chairman. On the panel were: Emma Jones MBE, founder of Enterprise Nation; Glynis Whiting, Managing Partner of TIAO; David Slater, Director for International Trade and Investment at London & Partners; and Ray Qudos, Head of Sales and Marketing at RDX Sports.
