COBCOE Brexit Ambition Initiative underway across EU27 – the only business-led qualitative research focused on the priorities of trade relationships between Europe and the UK
COBCOE is working to ensure an economically stable outcome from Brexit for Europe as a whole.
COBCOE, the only pan-European British business network, welcomes the triggering of Article 50 and is now waiting for the EU’s formal response so that negotiations can begin to reduce business uncertainty.
Commenting on the triggering of Article 50 COBCOE’s Executive Chairman, David Thomas MBE, said: “The type of agreement that the UK is aiming for will be based on common interests. These interests are based on the UK’s economic ties with the EU, which are comprised of myriad webs of complex and interwoven business relationships across all sectors and countries in the region.
“For negotiations to reach a successful outcome, the voice of European business must therefore be heard loud and clear not only in the UK, but also in Brussels and all capitals around Europe.”
Identifying the areas of common benefit is crucial. To this end, the COBCOE Brexit Ambition initiative, supported by Hogan Lovells, the international law firm, and other partners, is now collecting data and using qualitative analysis across the EU27 through the COBCOE network of British chambers of commerce and business associations.
The aim of this research is to give negotiators and other stakeholders on all sides the information they need to make the best of Brexit, both during the negotiation period and on the implementation of the UK's withdrawal from the EU.
The results of the COBCOE Brexit Ambition research will be published in a report in June, primarily for UK and European national governments, and also the European Commission. In the interests of transparency and integrity, the report will also be released to political groups, business communities and the media.
